Belmont is a city in San Mateo County in the U.S. state of California. It is in the San Francisco Bay Area, on the San Francisco Peninsula halfway between San Francisco and San Jose. It was originally part of Rancho de las Pulgas, for which one of its main roads, the Alameda de las Pulgas, is named. The city was incorporated in 1926. Its population was 25,835 at the 2010 census.
Ralston Hall is a historic landmark built by Bank of California founder William Chapman Ralston on the campus of Notre Dame de Namur University, and is also home to Notre Dame High School. It was built around a villa formerly owned by Count Cipriani, an Italian aristocrat. The locally famous “Waterdog Lake” is also located in the foothills and highlands of Belmont.

Belmont citizens are justifiably proud of their new “State of the Art” Library that opened its doors in 2006. It was a collaborative effort of the City of Belmont, the Friends of the Library and the community of Belmont.
Library users value “lifelong learning.” This is reflected in the bustling activity that takes place daily as children, young adults, and adults seek information for school reports, health, parenting, travel, financial planning, money management, home improvement, etc. The Library is an active “information center” with more than just children and adult books. Newspapers, magazines, cassettes, CDs, DVDs, books on tape, business directories, consumer materials, investment resources, tax forms, videos, community information, public access computers, computer catalogs, Phonedisc and other CD Rom products, public access to the Internet, study tables and more round out the resources available to today’s citizens.
As a branch of the San Mateo County Library system and a member of the Peninsula Library system, a Belmont Library card gives users access to all 32 public or community college libraries in San Mateo County. There is an adjacent children’s play area, Belameda Park.

REVIEWS BY RESIDENTS
I’ve been living in Belmont for my whole life. I’ve spent my childhood here. Belmont is a beautiful city with very family-friendly neighbors. The beautiful views and amazing hills with bright green trees are perfect to go on a bike ride or walk with friends. The schools around are amazing! They provide all the resources you need and are at a very safe location. There are many job opportunities for teens in shopping centers around schools. House costing is a bit overpriced but worth living here with a huge loving community.
Although it is a small city, I like that I can go out at night and walk alone without feeling the need to have someone with me. The city could use a little more engagement but there are more favorable things about Belmont than there is to fix.
Belmont is a lovely town, although can be too quiet at times. It is very clean and has many amenities. Close to several lakes and trails, but also in a convenient location on the Peninsula. There are unbeatable panoramic views of the Bay Area from certain points. Decent commute for jobs throughout the Peninsula.
